  1. Recipient this year is Kendall Fountain who is an eight-year-old little girl that was diagnosed with Craniopharyngioma, which is a benign brain tumour that attaches itself to the Pituitary, Hypothalamus and Optic Chiasm area of the brain. She was diagnosed with this condition two years ago after suffering from headaches, nausea and vision problems. She has undergone two different surgeries at Toronto’s Hospital for Sick Children. The first was to remove numerous cysts that had surrounded the tumour causing extreme pressure (Hydrocephalus). The second surgery five months ago was an attempt to remove as much of the tumour as possible as it had grown noticeably and was threatening her vision. Unfortunately, the surgeons could only remove 20% of the tumour as it would not detach from the brain. Subsequently, Kendall spent many months in Toronto for radiation treatment to try and stop the tumour from growing. Kendall and her parents will have to make numerous trips to Toronto for future surgeries, radiation treatments and specialist’s appointments.
